Our aim: Education, energy & communication for one-planet living.

What we do: - We inspire individuals and business to adapt to climate change in a positive and enjoyable way, using insights from the new sciences and the creativity of the arts.

- Our weekend courses bring theory together with practical hands-on experience, with some of the foremost teachers in the country, in co-operation with Schumacher College and Centre for Alternative Technology.

Come and meet us at our Gaia Exhibition event at the Hay Festival, and try out our carbon-footprint games, eco-awareness workshops and other activities.

Who we are:

Elaine Brook is an ecologist, writer and photographer who lived and worked for 12 years in the Himalaya. Now designs Gaia's education programme, and teaches Gaia Theory and Deep Ecology.	Penny Kennington; Currently a consultant & trainer; previously Patent Attorney, Head of Services in BT's legal dept, Implementation Manager of change programme, & co-founder of European Sustainability Group.
Dion Webb is an artist working mainly in stained glass and wood: As part of the Gaia team, he helps with development and support with administration.	Tania Dolley is a counselling psychologist and course organiser for the Eco-psychology MSc module at Edinburgh. She is co-founder and co-ordinator of the UK Ecopsychology Network.

Advisory Board

Satish Kumar is Programme Director at Schumacher College in Devon and Editor of Resurgence Magazine. He speaks and teaches worldwide from his early experiences as a Jain monk and in the Gandhian movement, as well as his 'Peace Journey' on foot from India to Paris, Moscow, London, and Washington.	Dr Stephan Harding is Senior Lecturer at Schumacher College in Devon. He has worked on Gaia Theory with James Lovelock, and his book, 'Animate Earth' gives a clear and in-depth explanation of the science of the living Earth with deep insights into our relationship with all that lives.
Peter Harper is co-founder of the Centre for Alternative Technology in West Wales and combines his understanding of renewable technology with many years experience of noticing how people and communities relate to each other and interact with their technology.	Prof. Shirley Ali-Khan is head of Education for the Bulmer Foundation and designs the learning programme for the MA in Sustainable Development Advocacy at Holme Lacy College, Herefordshire. She has pioneered new learning styles at the cutting edge of innovative higher education.
Dr. Jean Hardy is a Psychosynthesis councellor and is involved with the Dartington Trust in Devon, working on building links between the education programme and the wider community, particularly in respect of the transition to a low-carbon lifestyle at a community level. She is also involved in Green Spirit, the Creation Spirituality movement.	Dr Robin Cook is based at the University of Glamorgan and founded www.twfa.co.uk which enables young people to develop community skills through working on the land. In partnership with a number of local organisations he has developed a derelict site into a productive educational space which also produces fresh food for the community.

There are several ways you can support our work.

You can sponsor a place or one of our courses to enable low-waged or students to attend, or sign-up to the Phone Coop for your phone and internet, using our website link. Or you can be become a sponsor of the Gaia Exhibition & Lectures at Hay Festival.

Our network of local groups helps provide ongoing follow-up in participants' local areas. We are also in the process of pioneering a link-up of local Greenlinks directories which help people support their local economy by finding eco-friendly products and services in their home area.

Our work is based on the principles of Gaia Theory, researched by scientists James Lovelock and Lynne Margulis, and developed by Schumacher tutors Stephan Harding and Brian Goodwin, and philosopher Mary Midgley. We share Stephan's outlook - less pessimistic than in Lovelock's 'Revenge of Gaia' - we believe there is still time to avert catastrophic changes in the Earth's natural systems, and that it can be an enjoyable adventure if whole communities can work together.
