A
wonderful weekend, I had hoped would nourish and restore, but it
was beyond my wildest dreams. Thank you so much for holding such
a special safe space and for the vision you have created.

Thank
you so much for the weekend. I hope I manage to keep the nourishment,
ideas, whatever, alive in my life, rather than it fading and ‘normal’
habits overtaking once again.

was only after I had been home for 24 hours that I fully realised

| I became
aware of experiencing the garden with a new level of awareness brought
home from the mindfulness of our wonderful w/e; and then I had a
little thought: what we were all engaged in last w/e was not really
a retreat in the traditional sense; we definitely did not retreat
from the world, rather we practised engaging with it in a deeper,
more mindful way. AB - Cambridge |

Weekend courses start at 6 pm on Friday evening, with a light supper of soup and rolls available from 6.30. There will be introductions to each other and a tour of the venue at 7.30.
Food is local, seasonal, vegetarian and organic as far as possible, and vegan and wheat-free diets can be accommodated, provided we have advance notice.
Accommodation is in comfortable twin or double cottage bedrooms. Early bookings will be on-site, late bookings in neighbouring cottages. There are a few single rooms - early booking advisable!
Camping is also an option and includes meals.
Weather permitting, much of the course takes place outside (in summer), and there is an optional walk after lunch on Saturday. The teaching style is informal, interactive, and includes some movement as well as discussion, so that people do not have to sit for long periods at a time.

The Course Themes
Because the underlying theme of all the courses is holistic and interconnected, you will find elements of every course integrated into whichever subject you happen to choose. Although the course teachers are experts in their field, the emphasis on these weekends is to present the material in an accessible way, showing the relevance to contemporary issues and lifestyles. There is plenty of opportunity for questions and dialogue, and practical experience where possible.
Times: Courses start between 6pm and 8.30 pm on Friday, as some people take longer to arrive than others. A simple snack of soup and rolls is available during this time. People have a chance to relax and meet each other. There is a short session 8.00 – 9.30 before bed. Breakfast is at 8 am Sat and Sun, and everyone departs after lunch Sunday, at about 3pm.
Accommodation is in twin or double cottage bedrooms in local B&Bs, or camping. Campers use the showers in the cottages, and have meals provided together with residents. Single supplement is £15 per night (there are not many single rooms so early booking advisable.)
Venue: Courses take place in 1 acre of organic garden and are held mainly outside. There is usually a walk after lunch Saturday, and scope for more walking for anyone who wants to stay on after Sunday. If you wish to use the solar-heated swimming pool, bring swimwear and towel.
Food is fresh, home-cooked, home-grown organic as much as possible. We try to keep a balance of quiet time and discussion time. Many people like to chat at meal times, but there is opportunity for those who want to be quiet, to find a peaceful corner of the garden to take their tea or lunch. (but please bring your cups back!)
Travel: We try to encourage minimising of greenhouse emissions, so if you would like to car-share, include place & time you plan to leave home on your booking request. Public Transport information is provided with our confirmation of your booking. Parking at the venue is limited, so priority is given to cars with more than 2 occupants.
Talk to us! We are very fortunate to have the support of Resurgence and Schumacher College in expanding our programme of weekend courses. We would really welcome feedback from you, letting us know if this is the kind of thing you would like even if you can't come this year - or if not, what sort of things you would find enjoyable and useful.
Future Updates: If you want to be kept informed about future courses and events, email us and we will put you on our ‘Events’ e-mailing list. This makes it much easier for us to send you information on what is happening, especially if a teacher becomes available at short notice. We don't usually send more than two e-mailings a year, and we don't pass your e-mail to anyone else. We also don't display people's names and addresses on the circulars. |
